Yesterday was an extremely interesting day. I was supposed to work a few extra hours behind the desk, making client calls, that sort of thing. But it didn’t turn out that way. When the Boss showed up, he was already in a heated discussion on his cell phone. Turns out, there was a Community Vendor Fair going on. In our parking lot. And we weren’t invited. But the competitor was. That is, until a good friend spoke up and happened to mention our existence. So then the tables turned. Literally. The other guy was refused entry, and my Boss and I took over.
All in all, it was an okay day. Not the kind of work I was planning on, but who doesn’t love getting paid to sit in the sun? *Note to self: apply sunscreen regularly.
It was risky; my Boss getting in the face of the other guy and saying he wasn’t welcome here, on our turf. He did it with tact, and I’m impressed with his composure in front of others. But it certainly threw a monkey-wrench into the works.
The good thing is, it took my out of my shell, again. And my trusty cohort was there at her own table so it was far less boring than it otherwise could have been.
We got to talking, my friend and I, and came up with a few ideas to get us both out of the house a little more often and into the social scene. Not the kind where the kids come with us or we feel guilty for leaving them behind. But just honest-to-goodness, Girls Night Out, hanging with the peeps kind of stuff.
So here I am. Girl on a mission to meet (and blog about) people. I need to broaden my horizons. Because going out with the same group of people is reliable and great fun, but it’s also sheltered. I need to go out with a small group, to a place where interaction is more necessary. *Note to self: Midnight movies doesn’t count.
I’m looking for some great ideas. Where to go, to safely meet people. To mix, to mingle. To get to know, and get to be known. Bars and clubs aren’t my scene. Vegas is too far away to be spontaneous.
Which leaves me with Starbucks. Again. Seriously?! The only thing a guy is gonna notice about that is I’m a coffeeholic. There must be more to life than that…
Any suggestions? Anyone? Bueller?… Bueller?

There is always Disneyland.
