My Sand Pail List

I got this great idea from Charlene at A Divine Walk. She got it from another of her blog friends.

As Charlene puts it, “The sand pail list is a take off of a “bucket list” but instead of being a before you die list, it’s a list of things you want to accomplish during the summer.

I already have a To-Do List from last August. I’ve kept up with some of it; not all. It was a good refresher to take another look at it for this post. Kinda inspiring. Kinda guilt-laden.

Anyway. I still like lists. So here’s my Sand Pail List for 2012:

  • Finish the first draft of Book No. 1.
  • Order another print run of The Unemployment Cookbook.
  • Sell the entire print run of the Cookbook, then order yet another.
  • Visit the local Route 66 Museum.
  • Get caught up on my Bible reading.
  • Take Dot to the beach. I like Redondo. It’s where my favorite 80’s show was set: RIPTIDE, created by Stephen J. Cannell. Huntington is also nice.
  • Go to the movies at least twice a month.
  • Take Mom and Dot out at least once a month.
  • Finish three assignments for the Institute of Children’s Literature.
  • Get caught up on my reading list.
  • Say less “no” to Dot when she wants to do spur-of-the-moment activities.
  • Get a job. The job. The one that specifically answers the prayers of so many family and friends. And my own.

It’s a bit of a long list, but I’m excited for it. I like lists. I like putting things on paper, because then I can cross them off. Also, it’s a reminder. It kinda shouts in my face to have the list nearby while I’m sitting down wondering what to do for the next few minutes.

So. What’s your Sand Pail List this year?

The “I’m Not Writing a Post” Post – No. 1

So. Remember a while ago I said I would either not post as often, and/or post more substantial readings?

Yeah.

This is the caught-in-between post. The post that says, I want to still write, but can’t think of anything to write about.

I could recount my housecleaning endeavors, but not too sure that’s what you’re interested in. And I don’t have it in me to write a poem about dust bunnies. Not today.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in prayer, more than I have for a few months. It’s soothing, and peaceful, and comforting. But that’s all I can say. Every person’s relationship with God is different. And mine is turning more and more personal. So the details are not something I can casually blog about.

I saw Men in Black 3 this weekend. Twice, in fact! And it was great. Both times. Josh Brolin does an amazing portrayal of a young Agent K. If you haven’t seen any of the MIB movies, I strongly recommend them. Seeing MIB3 makes me want to break out the DVD set of I & II. So I guess you know what I’ll be watching by the time you’re reading this.

My house smells like smoke. Like fire. One of my neighbors is having a loud late-night party complete with firepit.

I miss writing. I miss writing with a purpose; substantial postings. I miss it. So I decided earlier today that I’m going to write more and read more.

But right now, I’m going to sleep more. And so ends this Sunday’s stream of consciousness writing.

And Frankly, My Dear… that’s all she wrote!

The Face of the Future

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Class of 2012.
You’ve worked hard. You made it through with flying colors.
You made it through the toughest moments.

You stopped and smelled the roses.

And now it’s time to rock the socks off the future.

You can do it.

You will do it.

The world is at your feet.

Tread steady, and make your own path.
