Frankly, My Dear . . . : 3 is the Key
Ever wonder why you see the same ad on TV during every commercial break for your half hour show? Studies show your audience is more apt to trust you and your service or product after three notices. The same is true for your social media presence.

Frankly, My Dear . . . : 3 is the Key
First, build your relationship. This is where you show more interest in knowing your audience than marketing your product or service. Second, show up again. Like a friend who invited them to coffee and follows through. Or that phone call you said you’d make. Just let them know you’re still in the wings. Third, remind them what you have to offer. This can be as subtle as adding your business name to a photo or meme, or a full-blown statement of what you or your company can do for them.

Frankly, My Dear . . . : 3 is the Key
You can change it up a little, but keep the theme of your message the same. Remember, you don’t want to drown your audience in redundancy. Your primary goal should be building relationships. And all healthy relationships are a two-way street. Get their attention. Maintain their attention. Offer them what they need. They always say third time’s the charm.

Frankly, My Dear . . . : The Unemployment Cookbook
Hey y’all! I’m so excited for this recipe post!
Last week I celebrated my new career by going to WinCo. Along with a new day gig at the local paper’s ad and digital marketing division, This Girl got paid to present on social media vs. marketing at WOK in Bakersfield, and I bought food with that thar income. So I guess social media really does put food on the table.

Frankly, My Dear . . . : Social Media does put food on the table.
Now, the day job won’t start for another day or two, but I quit the old job last week so I could take a few days for things like editing and cleaning and cooking and writing. (Can I get a woot! woot! on that last one? All right! Raise the roof with that noise!)
Girlfriend, let me tell you. My house hasn’t smelled this good since the Christmas cider two years ago. But these smells are a different cooking aroma. Lemme tell ya.
I made two recipes in the last few days. The first is a take on my Cheese Fondue. Now, I’m not gonna tell you how I made it, ‘cuz it was a little strong. Okay, so I’ll tell ya. But the printable recipe will have the better version.

Frankly, My Dear . . . Beer Cheese Fondue
I took 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, 2 cups shredded Italian 6-Cheese blend, one bottle of pumpkin beer, one bottle of regular beer, one packet of onion soup mix, two tablespoons of cornstarch, and a few dashes of salt and pepper. Honey, it was a lot. And it was spicy. Like, onion-spicy. You know those cooking shows where they tell the contestant to not do that? Yeah. Don’t do that. Instead, follow this recipe:
The Unemployment Cookbook: Beer Cheese Fondue
Ingredients
- 1 bottle beer
- 2 cups (8 oz.) shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 1 TBS flour or cornstarch
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Carefully pour the beer into your fondue pot.
- Turn on medium high.
- While the beer heats up, toss cheese and flour in a small bowl.
- Once the beer is warmed but not boiling, add cheese.
- Stir occasionally, until melted thoroughly.
- Reduce heat to medium.
- Serve with dippers such as diced meats, crackers, fruits, and vegetables.

As you can see from the photo, we enjoyed dipping pretzels, apples, diced meat, and a variety of vegetables.
That was Saturday.
Now lemme tell ya what was for dinner the next day.
This one’s just as easy-peasy. [And you can click on the photo to download the recipe for this month’s PDF.]

Frankly, My Dear . . . : Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork
But wait! There’s more!
What’s a girl to do with leftover cheese fondue and BBQ pork?
Aww, yeah. You know where this is going, don’t you, my hungry little Swarm.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Toasted MoJo Melt Sandwich:

Frankly, My Dear . . . : Toasted MoJo Melt Sandwich
Just look at those layers of BBQ pork and caramelized onion covered with tangy cheese fondue on crunchy toast. The perfect blend of smooth and savory in every bite. I just found a new meal to feed my people. Honey, I’m gonna open a restaurant with this sandwich, it’s that good! Served with a few chips, apple slices, and some refreshing citrus-infused water, there ain’t nothing better on the block.
But don’t take my word for it. Until my restaurant dream becomes a reality, you’ll have to make it on your own.

Whether it’s through family, friends, a networking group, or public forum, there’s one action I’ve found that works best for everyone in promoting their product or service.

Frankly, My Dear . . . : Word of Mouth Advertising only works if you open your mouth.
It starts with one person who believes in you and what you have to offer. Reach that one person, and your audience will grow.

Edie Melson: How to Craft a Perfect Facebook Post Using Headline Techniques
With a compelling headline, a browser becomes a reader. In the same way, a compelling Facebook post gives the web surfer the impetus to visit your blog or buy your book. But what makes a great headline?

Frankly, My Dear . . . : What makes a great headline?
The best posts contain your entire message in one memorable bite…without spoiling the ending.
Here are some of the basic types of headlines:
- Direct Headlines go straight to the heart of the matter, without any attempt at cleverness. A direct Facebook post might read Free SEO E-book.
- An Indirect Headline takes a more subtle approach. It uses curiosity to raise a question in the reader’s mind. It frequently uses clever words with double meanings. One of my favorites was, Why You Should NOT have a Facebook page. The actual blog post was written tongue-in-cheek about not wanting to promote a product.
- A News Headline is pretty self-explanatory, as long as the news really is news. It might be a product announcement, an improved version, or even a content scoop. Introducing the New Google Plus.
- The How to Headline is everywhere—mainly because it works. Just be careful not to work it too much. How to Craft a Perfect Facebook Post.
- A Question Headline must be more than just a question—it must be something your audience is actually interested in. How can Google Plus Help You?
- The Command Headline issues an order, telling the reader what to do, such as Subscribe to The Write Conversation Today!
- Another effective technique is called the Reason Why Headline. This is where your popular Top Ten Reasons to … fall.
- Finally, we have the Testimonial Headline, this works because it provides outside proof that what you offer has value. This is the only headline that uses quotation marks in the title. It lets the reader know this is a testimonial and will be continued in the body of the email.
What are some key components to a compelling headline?
- It must provide the reader with the tools to evaluate the content.
- It needs to resonate with a reader’s urgency.
- It’s important to show the reader why this offer/product/person is unique.
And it must do all of this clearly and concisely.
Now it’s your turn. Do you have a strategy when it comes to posting on Facebook? What makes a Facebook link one you want to click on?

Frankly, My Dear . . .: Nippers, Bruno, and Molly Jo Realy
I’m often asked what is the difference between media and marketing?
Now, that’s a pretty loaded question and I can definitely go on, and on, and on . . . but the bottom line answer for me is, media is networking and marketing is sales.
Not everything is marketing, but if you are a creative professional, your quest should be to share what you have to offer in a way that doesn’t scream, “Buy my product! Buy my product! Buy my product!”

“Give them a reason to care about you. Then they’ll care about what you write.” ~ Molly Jo Realy
Are you on Facebook or Twitter? How about Instagram? Did you see that cute post about your friend’s dog? How about that great photo your brother/sister/long-lost cousin put up, showing their morning coffee? [Hey, I am not knocking the coffee photos, okay? Let’s just be clear on that.] That’s media. That’s where you connect.
Now, how many of those posts prompt you to look at a product? Share a link to help you find life’s answers to why my coffee cup doesn’t magically refill? Yes, I’m still on the coffee thing, okay? Hey. You have your quirks. A little coffee in me never hurt anyone. In fact, the less coffee in me, the more likely someone is to get hurt. #needcaffeinenow.
But I digress. Anywhoo. That second part there is the marketing.
When the two come to together, it’s magic.
One of the best ways to know if you’re doing it right is to emulate someone you respect who has forged the path before you. Check out inspiring blogs, Facebook pages, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Look at websites with a critical eye and take note of what you do (and don’t) like. Now, pull the threads you want to use and tie them up in a pretty bow!
Well, I was thinking bow as in ribbon, but a bow can also be, you know, a bow. And I already have a meme for that!

Frankly, My Dear . . . : Be Your Own Hero
What a perfect demonstration. Why, that’s as nifty as a firefly in the tree. They just go together, dontcha think?
So my question to you is, are you a professional media magician or an amateur product pusher? [Check out last week’s post Social Media Saturday: Memes Aren’t Just for Marketing.]
Now, if you’ll excuse me. I have an urge to drink another latte. . .

Frankly, My Dear . . .: We love our lattes!
