Well, here I am again; 9 o’clock at night and just now remembering I don’t have a post for tomorrow.
I’m disappointed in the (lack of) quality writing on my blog lately. I have grand ideas, terrific ideas; but I also have a pretty full schedule. This week has been all about book signings, meet-and-greets and selling The Unemployment Cookbook. Oh, there’s still for you to enter to win your own free copy. Just click here.
Today I devoted the afternoon to spring cleaning my Master Bedroom Closet. But as we all know, to clean a mess you have to make a mess. And that means that two hours before bedtime my room looked like the closet had expelled itself a solid case of the stomach flu all over the place. Clothing, bags, papers, empty plastic bins, full plastic bins, stuff that fell out of plastic bins… did I mention it was messy?
I stopped to take a dinner break, and nearly fell asleep in my chair. So after much self-convincing, I picked up the trash, stacked the magazines, hung the clothes, and put the few remnant tasks into the Narnia room… and closed the door. At least I can look around my room tonight and not see a mess. It will still be there tomorrow, but at least tonight I don’t have to look at it. That makes me feel a little better.
I’m actually not too sure that life won’t drag me away from the closet again tomorrow (your today, since I’m writing this Thursday night). I have the usual morning schedule: drive Dot to school (or let her drive me), stop at Mom’s for the morning news and coffee, get to the grocery store for a few essentials (if I remember. The last three days I’ve forgotten).
In the afternoon, I get an exciting change from the norm: I get to drive down to County offices for job skills testing. Last month I applied for a clerical position in the local offices, and my resume and application passed Step One. Now I get to go with a group of about 200 others to be tested for skills. I’m not nervous about the test, I love tests. I really do. I love “showing off” I guess. Especially word and communication skills. Go figure. No, not worried about the test at all.
It’s the weather. This morning the reports were calling for severe rainstorms and high winds throughout the area, and I refuse to make the drive in those conditions. But as of 9 o’clock tonight, there’s much less rain in the forecast and even the wind predictions are dying down. So I’m confident that I’ll make the drive, ace the test, and land the job.
Tomorrow night will be my favorite part of the day. It’s Family Game Night at the Second Family’s house after Bible Study. We haven’t gotten our two families together for a few months, so we’re all looking forward to this much needed quality time. Of course, the hockey play-offs will feature prominently in our viewing activity, at least for a while.
Yeeks. I just realized I’ll have to write tomorrow’s post early so I don’t forget. Well? What should I write about? You decide.

Today is the second of three Friday the 13th’s this year.
In January, I posted 13 trivial facts about the date.
While I haven’t added anything new, here’s the link in case you wanted a refresher: Friday the 13th, Part I.
Happy reading!

Today’s prompt from BlogHer.com is “Which poet do you wish was also a blogger?”
I’d have to say… I’m not sure. Because I don’t read tons of poetry, so I’m not well-versed (pardon the pun) with poetic artists.
But I keep thinking of one. A man who’s writing style is so glorious, so creative, so inclusive and amazing that if he were a daily blogger, I’m pretty sure I’d be speaking in rhyme far more often than I do.
I am, of course, talking about non other than Theodor Geisel; better known as Dr. Seuss.
Can you imagine the possibilities that man could offer on topics like cooking in a plastic bag, or the political climate under the ant hill, or even nine ways to wink at a cat? It’s endless, I tell you! Positively endless!
If it were up to you, what topics would you like Dr. Seuss to blog about? If not Dr. Seuss, then who?

I recently joined a Bible Study that meets on Tuesday mornings. We’re currently studying the notable women of the Bible, and it’s been fantastic.
Each woman has her strengths, her weaknesses, her faith, her lessons learned and her lessons to share.
But what I love best about this study is that it not only recounts history, but it also applies to today’s women. We each have our own strengths, weaknesses, faith, and mentors.
Today we talked about Elizabeth, and how her barrenness was a sign of “sin” in her culture. That a couple without children were “obviously” doing something wrong. This led to a great conversation about how society labels people without compassion; and how standards of living can be based on less-than-understanding ideals.
It got me thinking… even in “the old days”, society still had its popular kids, its nerds, its workers, and its takers. The gossipers and the ones they gossiped about. The instigators and the troublemakers; the abused and the victims.
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
Lately I’ve been thinking about that a lot: how I used to “romanticize” the Bible stories… oh, things were so much more simple in those days. Were they?! Really?!
No home for 40 years. Wandering in the wilderness. Eating the same food every single day. Sleeping on rocks and hard earth. People killing people just because they didn’t like their religion. No tolerance. No understandings. Persecutions. Famines. Floods. Fires. Sickness.
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
But also rooted in the beginnings of time are the beautiful things: Life. Earth. Nature. Love. Human kindness. The fruits of the Spirit. Forgiveness.
Especially forgiveness.
Especially life.
And I’m so thankful that
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
Because without forgiveness, without love, I may as well be without life.

Once again, my day was so full that I neglected to have any deeply thought out post. Dot’s been great at keeping the house clean. We’ve scarfed down leftovers from yesterday’s Easter dinner. And there are two more tiny green things emerging from the flower bed dirt.
I’ve sold more Cookbooks, started Chapter Two of the first novel in our book series, and finished the general layout for A Study on the Ten Commandments. But I forgot to come up with a substantial blog post.
So I clicked on over to BlogHer.com for a writing prompt… and they’re “currently under maintenance”. Agh! The one time I really need a writing prompt, and I can’t get to it.
So instead I think of the two writing kits I bought from Writer’s Digest two years ago; complete with prompt cards and whatnot. But they’re in the other room, on the typewriter table. And I’m here, under two cats.
I have no prompts. And every time I write “Under Maintenance” I think of “Under Construction” which is the name of the college magazine I wrote for many years ago, when I lived in Minnesota and lived with my dear Uncle Roger, who was the only person other than my mother who understood how books are the most amazing thing in the world. How you can never have too many words.
And I remember that I won a writing contest and a writer’s group formed a scholarship just for me because of a short story I wrote for that magazine. And I’m not trying to toot my own horn here, but it’s a nice refresher that I do know what I’m doing. And that I’m good at it.
And I guess I don’t need a prompt after all.
