Frankly, On Faith: Be Still.

It’s a hard thing, to just be still. Even if the body isn’t moving, the mind is. Here, the grocery list. There, repairs to be made.

Emotions get worked up. Why am I doing nothing? I need to do something. Why aren’t those things getting done?

I should put this time to use. I should at least read my Bible. Or pray. Yes, I can pray. But not for myself. For others. Let’s see . . . My friends who are going through that thing. I really should call and see how they’re doing.

Stop Fighting and Be Still.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

I suffer from depression. This isn’t something I used to talk about. It’s nothing I’m ashamed of, because I’m still here. But it’s definitely something misunderstood. And most people are afraid and embarrassed about it, whether it’s happened to them or someone they love.

A Day of Rest

I recently had the opportunity to combine both my love of writing with my love for people. I shared a rough draft of my Study on the Ten Commandments with a dear friend who later told me Day Three really spoke to him.

After an introduction to the Study and to the Ten Commandments as a whole, Day Three introduces the reader to the First Commandment: “You shall have no other gods before me.” (NIV, Exodus 20:2). What my friend gleamed onto was a short message encouraging the reader to let go of all that distracts us from God.
